During November 2024 to January 2025, Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia’s clinical team conducted 981 surgeries at Hamlin’s six fistula hospitals in Addis Ababa, Mekele, Yirgalem, Metu, Harar and Bahir Dar. This surpassed the planned target of 956 surgeries, achieving 103% of the goal.

A total of 2,387 patients visited Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia’s outpatient departments in Addis Ababa and the five regional treatment centres.

Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia’s completed surgeries surpassed the planned target of 1,044 surgeries, achieving 130% of the goal and the total outpatient visits exceeded the initial goal of 1,986 patients and achieving 120% of the target. 

Julia Nisbett, Australia Ambassador for Ethiopia (above) recently visited Mekele Hamlin Fistula Hospital and was warmly welcomed by Dr. Melaku Abriha, the Medical Director and a fistula surgeon at the hospital, and his team.

Ms Nisbett toured the hospital and met with obstetric fistula patients and expressed her appreciation to Dr Melaku and his dedicated staff for their tireless efforts in supporting women’s health services in Tigray and surrounding regions.
