Hamlin Barefoot Walk officially starts on 1 September, but we understand you might be excited to start. Once you’ve registered, you can start fundraising straight away. Although we would like the physical activity to be completed in September so that we’re all a part of the fun together!
We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused. We are doing our best to get all welcome packs posted in a timely manner. If you have any questions or concerns please contact the team at hq@hamlin.org.au
We know that life can be busy, and not all schedules will suit September. Registration is open from 1 August and will close 8 September. Fundraising pages will stay active until 31 October. You can always do any run or walk for Hamlin at any time of year and harness the support of your family and friends to help women in Ethiopia. We appreciate anyone getting active for Hamlin whenever suits you.
The fantastic prize pack contains a copy of Hospital by the River, one Frank Green 1L drink bottle in the colour orange PLUS a $300 voucher to BARED!
To go in the draw for our Hamlin Barefoot Walk prize pack, you need to collect all achievement badges OR raise over $1,500 to automatically go in the draw. Entries close 11:59pm 10 October 2025. The winner will be drawn, and notified by 15 October 2025.
This is a self-paced challenge. You can complete your activity in any safe space to walk or run. If you are completing the challenge barefoot, we suggest choosing terrain that you know well and be careful - your safety is of the utmost importance!
No. Although it’s the Hamlin Barefoot Walk, we understand that this may not be possible for everyone. If you would like to wear footwear that is totally ok! Walking barefoot is reflective of the experience of the women walking in rural Ethiopia to get to medical care. It is called a challenge for a reason - we hope you can give it a go and have fun!
If you plan to undertake the challenge barefoot, we suggest that you get used to walking barefoot by walking short distances without footwear. We also suggest scouting paths and tracks that you would feel comfortable to walk barefoot prior to doing so. When you join the challenge, you will receive some extra tips in your Welcome pack!
The minimum goal we would like you to aim for is 25km, this is the average distance walked by women to receive medical care. This means walking less than 1km a day or approximately 1,100 steps a day for the month of September. If you complete your activity goal before the deadline, we encourage you to consider increasing your goal and aim to help more women get the medical care they need.
It’s ok! You can keep working towards your activity goal past the 30 September deadline. The Hamlin Barefoot Walk is about challenging yourself whilst raising awareness of the experience of women suffering with obstetric fistulas in rural Ethiopia and raising funds to give them the medical care that they need - every little bit makes a difference.
The charity does not have insurance cover for you personally. You will need to take your own safety precautions and sense of fun.
