Right now, an estimated 30,000 Ethiopian women are suffering in silence with the devastating childbirth injury, obstetric fistula. Each year, around 1,000 new cases occur.
These women are often hidden away - out of sight, forgotten and alone. Yet in most cases, this horrific injury can be cured with a simple two-hour surgery.

A horrific childbirth injury stole Tesfanesh’s life. Someone like YOU gave it back.
Alone in her rural home, Tesfanesh laboured for two agonising days before tragically delivering a stillborn baby. Soon after, she developed one of the worst childbirth injuries imaginable - an obstetric fistula - which left her incontinent.
“Immediately after the stillbirth, I began to experience uncontrollable urine flow. I hoped it would stop over the next few days, but it didn’t. I am still suffering.” - Tesfanesh
After six years of pain, suffering and isolation, a Hamlin Patient Identification Officer found Tesfanesh hidden away at home. He took her to Hamlin’s Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital where she was warmly welcomed with the gift of a Comfort Package containing a beautiful Hamlin blanket, hygiene items, a new nightgown and slippers and a lovely homecoming dress. Life-changing surgery restored her health, dignity and confidence.

Prevent future childbirth injuries and improve maternal healthcare by establishing Hamlin-supported midwifery clinics across Ethiopia staffed by Hamlin-trained midwives.
Educate communities about the importance of medical care during pregnancy, safe delivery methods and treatment options for women with childbirth injuries.

By making a small regular gift, you are continuing the work started by Dr Catherine Hamlin over 65 years ago to provide life-restoring treatment to Ethiopian women suffering from horrific childbirth injuries
A donation amount of your choice is debited from your nominated credit card, or deducted from your bank account on 10th of each month, or the nearest business day.

All donations of $2 or more are tax deductible. At the end of every financial year, you will receive an annual tax receipt for all your gifts over the past financial year.
