This September I’m completing the Hamlin Barefoot Walk and raising money to help treat a woman suffering from a preventable childbirth injury - obstetric fistula. This injury is virtually unheard of in Australia but very common in Ethiopia because many women live hours away from a medical clinic. AUD$1500 is the cost of the life-changing fistula repair surgery at one of six Hamlin fistula hospitals in Ethiopia. The 25kms distance is reflective of the average distance many women in rural Ethiopia must journey to receive medical care, often barefoot. Many Ethiopian women live with obstetric fistula for months, years—even decades— before receiving the treatment they desperately need. They are forced to hide away at home, living with both the physical pain and emotional shame of their condition. Imagine if this was your mother, sister, daughter. No woman should have to suffer in silence when a cure is within reach. Please help me do it for her. Thanks so much for your support. Every little bit helps!

*To go in the draw collect all achievement badges. Individuals that raise over $1,500 will automatically go in the draw.
Entries close 11:59pm 10 October 2025. The winner will be drawn, and notified by 15 October 2025

And done... 25km Barefoot Walking! My awareness is raised of the ground beneath my feet, gumnuts that stick, sharp edges of exposed of blue metal in paths, but most of all, the suffering of women in Ethiopia who must endure travelling distances on foot to receive the healing services in Catherine Hamlin Hospitals. Thankyou to all who have supported this. Together we've raised $890! If you would like to find out more or support this work check out the fund raising page.

I notice the exposed sharp edges of blue metal in old paths, the pebbles less buried in cement. The new paths bright and smooth and the cool grass which may have bindis... which it seems I will avoid at great cost to my soles. Better the pain I know than the surprise strike of a bindi!
