Why Am I Fundraising

We have decided to fundraise for an amazing organisation called Catherine Hamlin Fistula Foundation. The foundation supports the important work of Dr Catherine Hamlin AC, a pioneering Australian surgeon who committed her life to helping women in Ethiopia with devastating childbirth injuries. In Ethiopia, around 50% of women experience childbirth without medical care. Many women sustain horrific childbirth injuries like obstetric fistula, which leave them incontinent. They are often abandoned by their families and communities and hide away in shame and isolation. We are travelling to Ethiopia, as part of a self-funded Hamlin Ethiopian Adventure to see first-hand the incredible work of Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia. We are paying our own way. As part of our commitment, we are fundraising to directly help provide life-changing surgery and rehabilitation to women. Your donation will go directly to the Hamlin Foundation. Every dollar counts. No matter how small you think your donation may be, we assure you it will make a difference to women lives; restoring dignity, returning mothers to their families and helping prevent obstetric fistula.
